mandela/mandala
im working on a new übershort film thing in imovie, combined with something a grabbed offa the web called Cosmic Painter. i felt it was time to combine this:
In various spiritual traditions, mandalas may be employed for focusing attention of aspirants and adepts; as a spiritual teaching tool; for establishing a sacred space; and as an aid to meditation and trance induction. its symbolic nature can help one "to access progressively deeper levels of the unconscious, ultimately assisting the meditator to experience a mystical sense of oneness with the ultimate unity from which the cosmos in all its manifold forms arises."
with the famed african activist and leader, nelson mandela. what better source of contemplation and courage for eating darkness with?
here are two stills from the forthcoming film.
its been tricky trying to get the right spinning/cyclical nature of the mandala correct but a bit more van time and i might get it figured out. (and yes that is john dee spying out from between the screen shots)

ever heard this? it is an incredible jam containing rasta-linguistic-mystic ideas about prophecy and coming judgement. i tend to like ciphers. ALOT. every sub group speaks in its own argot, but transmitting potentially threatening/dangerous messages isnt usually the main point. making the invisible visible is one purpose of the 'holy theatre' in peter brooks' nomenclature. last night we watched this: www.petergreenaway.info/content/view/63/64/. its theme takes Rembrandt and the painting of his famous 'Night Watch'. it seems that the circumstances behind that work were less then savoury, and the man took it to himself to secretly embed the real story behind the conspiring and devious militiamen of amsterdam, who are the subjects of it. 'art is a lie that tells the truth' greenaway is telling us; and that is as good a defination as ive ever lived.
meanwhile, speaking of ciphers, heres nasty NAS, from the hippie fest that bss just played last week end. the man was spitting tight, sure, but to an audience of The String-Cheese Incident fans? i guess gettin the cheddar is good enuf for prince Nasir...good enuf for us too.
and heres prolly one of NAS roadies or entourage....squeezin a bit more american jack outta some kosmic cowboys and girls:

never heard this album until last night, until you mentioned it... I still can not describe how it feels but it will be on constant rotation from now on, for sure
the rest of the post made me laugh, I guess that seeing NAS at a hippie festival is a much more intimate experience than seeing him at Rock the Bells, so lucky you, mijo
